Rare snapshots of Andy Warhol are now on display in Portland. Photographer Paige Powell documented the bustling East Village art scene of the 1980s. That series consisted of intimate snapshots of people like Andy Warhol and Powell’s boyfriend Jean-Michel Basquiat.
800 images are plastered onto white walls at the Portland Art Museum. Capturing moments such as Warhol laughing in somebody’s apartment, Basquiat out at events and three video screens along a wall, playing loops of never-before-seen camcorder footage of Warhol and the gang.
