This weekend’s episode of “Vinyl,” once again revolved around the iconic Max’s Kansas City and featured both Patti Smith, and Bruce Springsteen. Salon wrote another a great episode re-cap, examining the show and the Max’s history behind Vinyl and NYC in the 1970s.
In the episode, the A&R for American Century Recordings talk about potentially signing Patti Smith. Patti performed her “Hey Joey / Piss Factory” single at Max’s in 1974. Within a year Clive Davis would sign The Patti Smith Group to Arista Records and they would be recording Horses with producer John Cale.
