David Bowie & His Eternal Relevance
David Bowie has been given many titles over the course of his forty year career. He’s been called an innovator, he’s been called a chameleon, he’s been called a visionary & he’s been called a genius. All of those descriptions certainly hold true. However, one aspect of David Bowie that sets him apart from so many other living legends is his continued relevance in modern culture.
You don’t have to look very far to see his influence on the style of today’s artists and musicians. Lady GaGa’s style undoubtedly borrows very heavily from David Bowie’s countless looks – from her make up to her elaborate outfits and her general strong ties to fashion. Nick Thorburn (aka Nick Diamonds), singer for the band Islands, has been channeling Bowie’s glam and glittery panache as of late, and you can easily see some influence in the sexy flamboyance of Patrick Wolf’s style.
In the world of fashion, nearly every trend (that becomes massive) owes something to David Bowie. If you don’t believe us, walk into an American Apparel or Urban Outfitters sometime soon.
His iconic album covers have been duplicated over and over by artists and photographers around the world. Duplicate him, as we may, David Bowie remains to be one of a kind and nothing will ever change that. A true mastermind!
